Despite fewer military conflicts worldwide, defence personnel still carry out vital operations to safeguard the country and its citizens. To illuminate the path ahead in such demanding conditions, end users and operators require equipment that not only serve the purpose of illumination but also are capable of adapting to harsh weather conditions, shocks, and damages. Another vital prerequisite for such military equipment is their ability to integrate with modern infrared cameras, image intensifiers, and surveillance equipment, in turn addressing a multitude of military user scenarios.
To provision uninterrupted, seamless, and efficient military operations in the most challenging environmental conditions, Wiseled produces High quality LED and multispectral laser illuminators that enhance the operator’s ability to observe, detect and engage targets with increased accuracy and reduced collateral damage.
With the product baseline of illuminators, non-lethal dazzlers and searchlights, Wiseled specializes in combining LED and laser technologies to develop devices that are custom made to meet each clients’ requirements. The company produces illuminators for military applications, supporting optronics and sensors, increasing and adding capacities to weapon platforms ranging from large tanks , remote weapon stations to unmanned and light infantry vehicles used for field operations. Despite operating at a smaller scale, the company is agile and can adapt to the different end-user needs, giving room for alterations in design and power consumption during production. “Our clients hand over either their own or end-user requirements to us, and we spend a lot of time investigating and optimizing our solutions for their operational requirements,” says Stephan Tschudi Madsen, Wiseled Special projects department.
Wiseled develops Low-SWaP(SizeWeight and Power)searchlights, infrared LED/laser, and Short Wave Infrared illuminators (SWIR), which easily integrate with various camera systems and weapon platforms. The products produced are continually refreshed to meet the ever-changing needs of their clients as well as the surveillance and military markets.
As consumers demand smaller, more lightweight illuminators, there exists a greater demand in the marketplace to minimize the weight and increase the performance of the devices. In that regard, the company’s searchlights and infrared illuminators ensure that Military and surveillance ground operations can be carried out effectively in all light and weather situations.
The company boasts a product portfolio that meets the highest requirements and standards for military, maritime and security markets. They have been delivering the Xtruder, their flagship series of searchlights and illuminators, since 2014. The Xtruder illuminator is used on the BAE Hägglunds CV90s, an integral tracked combat vehicle of the Norwegian army, by coaxially mounting the device on its 30mm turret cannon.
The key functionality of the initial Xtruder illuminator was the dual visible and infrared output available directly for the operator. This aided the operator in the detection of objects and humans in the harshest conditions and environments.
Wiseled has developed a new series of LED and laser-based illuminators that enable their customers to maximize the visual capacities available by providing extensive camera support and visual tools. “We are preparing the launch of our latest illuminators, the FALCON and the CROW during Q1 2022, a huge leap ahead for our team ”, says Stephan.
Emphasizing their agility and consumer-centric processes, Stephan elaborates on an instance where the local ministry of Defence approached them with a request for a customdesigned infrared vehicle illuminator. This was a matter of pride for the company to address the requirement from our own troops. “Our team sat down with the customer representatives and set the baseline and technical requirements for this illuminator,” says Stephan. The result was the genesis of the Xtruder RAVEN, an extremely compact and rugged vehicle illuminator, built and designed to support driver vision enhancement systems.
Every device, including the Xtruder RAVEN, is crafted with patience, passion and extensive research by Wiseled’s engineers, who ensure the best mix between performance, cost, customer requirements and reliability is achieved. The company aims to strengthen its existing presence in Europe as well as expand into the American market. “Wiseled has been delivering searchlights and illuminators in low volume for evaluation purposes during 2019 and 2020, and it’s a part of our strategy to increase our US footprint within 2022,” concludes Stephan.
